Our Piano Caster Cups Stand Up To The Test

Imagine the weight of a piano, poured down into it’s tiny feet, pinning pressure on your floors or carpets for years on end.  Pianos are heavy and caster cups can help diffuse their pressure on your floors.

Piano wheels are also known as caster wheels.  Piano casters can leave an impression in carpets or flooring - so you might want to park the piano casters in caster cups, which spread the pressure and lessen the damage.

If you have a grand piano then you would only need three caster cups, but for upright piano owners add a fourth cup to your order.

We sell genuine hardwood piano caster cups, and they stand up to a lot of pressure looking stunning all the while in immaculate lacquer or high gloss finish.  Highlighting the maple hardwood is the rich, hand-rubbed mahogany, ebony, or walnut finish.  Should you need a caster cup in a white finish or a custom red mahogany finish we can special order castor cups in almost any custom wood color.

Customers who need to protect their floors with piano caster cups should be sure to double check the width of their piano’s wheels or feet.  We measure both the width of the edge of the wheel as well as across the diameter of the wheel.  If it is a double wheeled caster of course take the width of both wheel edges together.  It helps also, if you need to speak with us about choosing casters, to know the make and model and size of your grand piano.

Do Upright Pianos Need Caster Cups?

If you have an upright piano wood caster cups should have four castor cups, so on our order page add an additional caster.  Sometimes caster cup might only be needed on the front legs, but in fact you should ask your piano technician what he recommends per your specific upright situation.

Make sure that only piano moving professionals or a guild certified piano technician supervises installation of casters under the piano legs.  Because the heaviest part of the upright piano is the heavy metal harp that holds the strings, there are serious concerns for safely lifting pianos to insert wood caster cups underneath the feet.  Pianos can easily be damaged (and people be hurt) during a move because of the unexpected heaviness of the plate and the way it's awkward shape affects balance.

We also provide sets of lucite caster cups which come in clear, white, and black.  These Piattino Caster Cups are durable plastic casters are best for schools and institutional use as they are less for aesthetics than the hardwood piano caster cups.

Because the hardwood piano caster cups are such magnificent specimens of turned wood, they are appropriate for use on the stage, in church, or in your fine piano room at home.  However, as a fine furnishings accessory our hand turned maple caster cups could also be finished to fit under your couches or dining room chairs at home.  They can eliminate vibration when floors aren’t even and your tables or chairs tip ever so slightly.  For most parts, the hardwood caster cups are as beautiful as the furniture and instruments you will use them on, and they will keep your floors undamaged.
